INSULATOR TRADES
Insulators keep buildings green. They apply insulation on all the plumbing, heating and cooling systems, piping equipment, and pressure vessels to reduce the transfer of heat, cold, sound and the chance of fire. They are a vital part of making buildings and operations more energy efficient.
Insulators measure lightweight and easy-to-use materials and envision how these flat pieces of insulation will work in a 3D-environment. Harnessing the power of handsaws, knives, and scissors, they skillfully measure and cut insulation that will properly cover pipes and ducts throughout a facility. When they’re not insulating new construction projects, they focus on repairs and maintenance.

While the work of an insulator is often covered at the end of a project, the correct installation of insulation makes projects safer, greener, and more energy efficient.

Throughout each work day they need to picture how to shape insulation to fit around piping heat exchangers, pipes and vessels. They must determine which type of insulation to use based on the location, temperature and weather changes. Sometimes these challenges can be difficult due to the strange shapes and unusual sizes that present themselves in an oil and gas facility, but Insulators always challenge themselves to find the best solution with the least amount of waste.

Insulators are detail-oriented people who love to work with their hands. They also have the foresight to envision and prepare the shape, size and type of insulation materials required for a job. All of this requires a lot of planning and construction knowledge.
